Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Hypogeum of Hal Saflieni is one of the most beautiful and puzzling works of the Temple period.
Hewn out of the living rock its maze of underground chambers and passages are richly decorated with painting and sculpture, reflecting the style of the megalithic temples found above the ground. Excavations have revealed a wealth of archaeological material including pottery, human bones, personal ornaments such as beads and amulets.
